Building Our First Home - Week Eight (Final Walk Through)

Hello Everyone!

Man....I never thought this day would come. The house is finally (almost) finished and we were able to take the final walk through this past Saturday to make sure everything was in working order.

We were blown away by the house. Everything looks amazing and we feel so blessed to be moving into a great neighborhood.

Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as we do!

Because of all the snow, they haven't been able to finish all the landscaping. We are still on schedule to close next week, Feb. 24th. It's so hard to believe that by this time next week, we will be home owners.

Please remember us in your prayers as we move closer to closing. Pray that everything will go smoothly and their are no problems with the house.

Check back soon for more updates!

Book Review: "Forgotten God" by Francis Chan

After His resurrection, Jesus explained to the disciples that He would be returning to the Father but told that an advocate, the Holy Spirit, would come to help them and testify to the works of Jesus.

If this is true then why has the church as a whole seemingly ignored the influence of the Holy Spirit in our lives?

In his follow up to the widely popular “Crazy Love,” Francis Chan discusses how our negligence of the Holy Spirit is the number one factor keeping the Christian church from bringing salvation and radical change to this sinful world.

Francis Chan introduces "Forgotten God"

First and foremost, this book is extremely challenging. Like his first offering, Chan does not sugar-coat his message. Instead, he simply states his argument and encourages readers to search the scriptures and engage in prayer to better their understanding.

Chan also fills “Forgotten God” with stories of unique individuals (some nationally known and others he met through his years in the ministry) who used the Holy Spirit’s guidance to make a huge impact on the world around them.

And while Chan aptly expresses that this particular book wasn't written from a particular tradition, it is evident that he tried to craft a widely acceptable view of the Spirit's power. Unfortunately, this is where the book falls short. Too many times I got the feeling that I had heard all this before. You could arguably at times call this work "Crazy Love Part 2." That's not to say these sections were unimportant or lacked the inspiring nature of the rest of the book, only that they felt familiar in an otherwise unique work.

Despite a few short falls, "Forgotten God" is a fantastic book and should be read by anyone serious about living a radical life for Christ.

I give this book a highly recommended 4 out of 5 stars.

Building Our First Home - Week Seven

Hey Everyone,

This blog post is going to be short and sweet. Short, because they have officially locked up our house and are finishing up all the "cosmetic" work. Sweet, because this means the house is ALMOST DONE!!!

Everyday we are blown away by how quickly this house has gone up. We even got word that we will be doing our "final walk through" this Saturday and the house (minus the landscaping work) will be done tomorrow (Wednesday Feb. 9, 2010).

While the pictures below are great, many of which were taken through a dirty window, I hope they convey the excitement we feel in seeing our house almost completely finished.

Hopefully we can get some great shots this Saturday during the walk through. It will be fun to show off the (almost) final project to everyone.

As of right now, closing is scheduled for Feb. 24th. Please keep us in your prayers as we near the date. Please pray that everything goes smoothly and that we are able to close on time.

Check back soon!

God Bless,
